Jon works in the School of Education at the University of Bristol, leading and teaching on several teacher education courses. Prior to this, he spent over 20 years teaching science and working in a variety of leadership positions in schools, also spending a number of years as a local education authority adviser. Jon has had responsibility within the School of Education for working with local teachers to develop their professional learning. He has recently completed a Ph.D that sought to better understand the complexity of teachers’ classroom practice, particularly early in their career, and is keen to see schools employing approaches to teacher development that are not based on deficit models. Jon recently finished a seven-year spell as a member of a local governing board for a South Bristol school, chairing the quality of education committee, and during this time having responsibility for a number of areas, including safeguarding and SEN(D) provision.
